What every man wants for the holidays
Tuesday, December 9th, 2008I planned to list 50 items that all men consider must-haves this holiday season. And I wasn’t just going to make them up on the fly either. After all, if it were up to me, I’d say every man needs a copy of Twilight in his stocking, whether he wants it or not.
What every man wants this holiday season
No, I was going to tell you what men want because I was going to ask them myself. And did I ask. I posted a note to my Facebook page, saying: “Need guy help! Men: what do you wish your S/O knew you wanted for Christmas?”
I got two responses. One guy said he liked baseball caps, and always appreciates a new one. The other was from one of my husband’s buddies. He suggested that all men want Florida State memorabilia. My husband is a diehard Gators fan. The Gators play for the University of Florida, in case you don’t already know this. And Florida and Florida State fans absolutely hate each other.

I have 215 Facebook friends and that’s all I get? Come on people.
I do realize that three quarters of my Facebook friends are women, but still.
Undaunted, I also sent an urgent Tweet, asking for help. I got bumpkis.
I posted a question to Linked In, too. I got one response. It was from a guy who said that his wife would never ever buy him a decent gift, so why was I trying to blog about this anyway?

So, ladies, this is what I’ve determined: Your man wants absolutely nothing.
Still, if your guy is like my guy and he’s worked really hard to make you happy, then I think he deserves a little something, whether he wants it or not. I talked this over with my husband. What follows are gifts he thinks your man would like for the holidays, and none of them cost a cent.
- A week off from housework.
- 25 BJ coupons. Whenever he wants one, he cashes it in.
- Dressing up as a Catholic schoolgirl (you, not him).
That’s all he could come up with. Apparently he doesn’t want much for the holidays, either. I hope he’ll be happy with the Cheese of the Month Club because that’s what he’s getting.
In the end, finding the perfect gift for your man comes down to this: knowing him and making him feel loved and important. Men are pretty simple. They really are. Think about what he likes and surprise him with something thoughtful, something that says, “Wow I love you. I am so happy you are in my life.”
For my husband that’s 25 BJ coupons. For yours it might be the perfect cuff link, a gallon of that one-of-a kind ice cream he adores (like Grader’s brand in Cincinnati), or simply having you organize a romantic night out just for the two of you (no kids).
