I’m Sorry That I Lied

The last time I posted—more than two weeks ago—I did a very good job of convincing you all that I was spending a two-week vacation at home.

A few wonderful readers–people who I love and will cherish always—read that post and offered to help me end my no vacation predicament. Some offered me spaces in their guest bedrooms. Others offered to entertain me in the city. One even offered me a stay at her B&B in New England.

So, now that the jig is up, I must confess.

I did not spend the past two weeks at home reading books.

I spent them in warm, sunny Florida visiting my in-laws, who conveniently live an hour away from Orlando.

I didn’t want to list all of these details publicly here on the blog, though, because it would have been an open invitation for someone to break into my house and steal all of the valuables that I do not own.

So I lied.

I hope you will forgive me.

I did, however, read quite a bit while on vacation. I didn’t read quite as many books as I’d hoped, but I read 5 of them. I’ll be sharing my reviews of some of these books in the coming days and weeks.

I also finished editing my own book, Project: Happily Ever After. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

And I rested. Rest is good. Before vacation, I was on the edge of burnout. Now, I’m energized.

In coming posts, I’ll be sharing some insights my vacation gave me into my Karma Project. For instance, in the coming days, you’ll find out what the phrase “just blow it out your nose” means. (Note: it has absolutely nothing to do with snot or boogers.) I’m confident that you’ll come to adore this phrase and everything that it represents just as much as I now do.

I will also soon announce the January Commenter of the Month.

And, not to bury the lead or anything, but I’ll also be announcing a really fun contest—one in which the coveted prize is a vibrator. No lie. I kind of wish this wasn’t my blog so that I could enter my own contest. Oh, well.

I’ll also soon be sharing my Neurotic Mom’s Guide to the Rides at Disney. It’s a can’t miss.  Really. Even if you never ever intend to go to Disney in this lifetime or the next, you’ll still want to read it.

And, very soon, I’ll offer communication tips.

So stay tuned. I’m happy to be back. I’m refreshed and ready to go. I’m glad you were patient with me. I missed you all and I look forward to reconnecting.

Glad you’re back. I was also in Florida for two days. It was not warm and sunny in Tampa, let me tell you.

Glad you got to read and relax. Very important!

You’re back, you’re back, you’re back! I’m so happy that you had a good vacation and I am jealous that you were able to read FIVE books! I’m a slow reader, so I am envious of those who can read that quickly. Can’t wait to hear about the vacay!

I’m happy you are back too! and so glad you had a vacation! I will confess also that i checked daily… twice… maybe three times… for a new post. :) but re-reading the ups and downs of parenting always made the check worth it ….

looking forward to all you have in store for us!

I’ve been to your blog a few times, and I really enjoy all the articles. I can’t wait to see your book!

I’m happy to hear that you got sometime off. You forget what it feels like to really have a week off in a distant relaxing place, and how that can really refresh you. It is nice to at least hear about it from someone else! :)

I follow someone on Twitter whose name I won’t mention, who frequently mentions an imaginary dog in his tweets – and when he travels, makes a point of mentioning friends or dog-sitters looking in on the dog, for the same reason as your imaginary staycation.

I wouldn’t say you “lied,” you just didn’t tell us the whole truth and nothing but the truth. These days, you can never be too careful. I never advertise my absense of home either, it’s just not safe or smart. You said you were going on vacation, and you did. You said you were going to read, and you did! So, see, it wasn’t an outright lie, it just wasn’t the detailed truth. I’m glad you had a good time (despite the plane rides, blood in the pee, daughter’s fish dying, etc.–I’m reading your posts from top to bottom, newest first, this one last) and most of all, I’m just glad you’re back! I think I can speak for everyone when I say, we missed you! Welcome back!

    Many Blessings,
    -Sarah Liz :)
