I hesitate to speak for anyone but myself. But since I do fit into the category of "every man" I have to say I want more than anything to find my S/O in the first place. So much is written about how to fix or save marriages. If married people would only realize how hard it is to merely find someone that you can agree with in the first place, perhaps they would spend more time enjoying each other and last time trying to fix each other. This is always a dark time of the year for me, having been born 5 days before Christmas and the day after my matriarchal grandmothers birthday. Many people get depressed during the holidays, and I'm one of them. Loneliness is hard enough to endure, but all the cheer and "holiday spirit" makes it worse.
So for the holidays, this man would love to find love. In my world, beer is way over-rated. And I don't use coupons.

My 15th wedding anniversary is Dec. 26, so I'm thinking 15 years of bliss with me is enough. Just in case, I think I'll follow Beth's expensive beer advice too.

I do want to add that my husband DID mention "beer" as the ultimate guy gift, but that seemed like cheating to me, as I sometimes buy it for him anyway. I WAS gonna get him some Stone 777 to age about a year ago (was planning on hiding it) and now it's a year later and I still haven't gotten and hidden the stuff. It's probably impossible to find, too, except for EBay. Thus Cheese of the Month.

One year, after giving my husband yet another "practical" gift -- tools, I think, and seeing his reaction, "that's nice," I asked him what he thought was a good gift. He said that something that reflected his interests -- books. So even though I don't think of a book as a very romantic gift, picking out a book(s) on a subject matter that I know interests him absolutely delights him. And he reads everything I've ever gotten for him.

Don't know if that helps, but it's all I've got.

Honestly?

You get more points in a relationship for giving a gift ONLY YOU would know your partner would like than you do from presenting the actual gift.

Your husband might be all talk about suggesting outfits and BJ coupons because lord knows you're a tigress and he's probably all worn out anyhow.

One of the aspects of a relationship that many people struggle with is the "hit list" of things one partner enjoys but the other hates. Prefer a tracheal implant to watching Naascar? Buy your partner tickets and actually GO to the race. Hate football but hubby loves it? Go online, do a little research, and force yourself to sit through the entire game and make a few interested comments.

Then again, you might be lucky and have one of those partners who's been thinking about that cucumber scrub of yours and would like nothing better than to spend a spa day with you.

The present that will mean most to your guy is very possibly the present you can't consider because you think it's a waste of time/money/disgusting/stupid/useless.

Perhaps this will help: When you give a present that involves a sacrifice on your part, your partner will feel a little guilty about how much you've truly given and appreciate it all the more! Ladies like guilt trips, right? hehe. Just playin.

Love the blog!

The problem is I can not yet afford my taste nor my husband's! If price were no object, he'd have a new truck and I'd have every piece of jewelry that I fall in love with when I see it. The problem is he doesn't really give any clues. Now I could just ask but I do try to go for the element of surprise. Still, I have a lead on something for this year. Next year, I am going to try to do what one coach I know suggested long ago - keep a running list. Whenever you see your loved one lingering over something, talking A LOT about something, write it down and try to get it for them. If all else fails, then in 2010, I'll just come on out and say, after 9 years of marriage, I'm clueless. Make a list!" :-)

Deep tissue massage always is nice. Or passes to the local cart racing track if your guy is into that. (Even if he doesn't think he is... most guys like to drive fast and he will probably have a blast.)
