Fashion is a multi billion dollar business so it does matter what she wears. She could single handedly bring the textile and apparel industry back to America if she would support clothing made in her own country. J. Crew imports everything.

Thoughtful, but…
Michelle Obama is the wife of a the most powerful head of state.
The first way people get to know her is from the outside in. How she dresses, how she comports herself. She is unique and as time goes on & she is asked to appear and travel for the President, I am sure she will make her mark. She made a mark during the campaign with her outspoken and heart felt appeal.

A major diference between she and Hillary Clinton is, she has two very young children. Give her time and don’t sell her so short.

You raise an interesting point. Why is fashion important in the first place? I believe it comes from an ages old desire to beautify one’s self. It certainly has been part of nearly all cultures in one form or another.
However, the idea that we know little about the accomplishments of Michelle Obama speaks volumes to the interests of society in general. We would rather see stories or read about Brittney Spears than any kind of substanitive background on our future First Lady.
Sadly, for all our accomplishments, we have really come that far. We still have a long way to go. Your piece helps advance towards that goal. Thanks!

I see little to be gained by all this hand-wringing. I have confidence that the new first lady will be effective in her new role. There will never be another one like her so she will have a unique opportunity
to push for change wherever she may feel it necessary. I for one hope she uses everything she is noticed for whether it be intelligence, capability, strength, or even the dreaded hotness(lets face it, she is, nuff said) to help her husband bring about change because he wil need all the help he can get after the monkey leaves Washington.
