How to get what you want

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008

The adolescent in me wants to insert “between the sheets” after that header, but this blog isn’t about that at all-well not really.

It’s about getting what you want in the world, on the Internet, and for the holidays. It’s also about getting free stuff, too. And, sure, doing everything I suggest here might get you what you want between the sheets, too, because the overriding message is this: to get what you want, you need to ask for what you want.

Let’s start with getting what you want in the world, particularly the United States. It all comes down to one word: vote. Today is Election Day after all. Something like three times more people vote for the next American Idol than who vote for the next President. Yes, it’s a sad state of national affairs.

Pissed off about the job market? Annoyed about your 401-K statement? Just feel the need to be important today? Then vote. I already did it. There were just three people in front of me. I rode my bike to my polling place. The whole trip-from garage to polling place and back-took about 15 minutes. Just do it.

Get What You Want on the Net

Now, for getting what you want on the Internet.

Okay, honestly, this one is a huge stretch. It doesn’t fit under the heading of “getting what you want” at all, but it does have something to do with the Internet, and it has a lot to do with me. In fact, it has to do with me getting what I want.

I’m assuming you are here because you like to read my stuff. If that’s the case, then you can support my efforts by voting for my blog at today’s “Mommy Bloggers Carnival” hosted at A Modern Mother. The site lists 23 of the top posts from the Internet’s top mommy bloggers. I’m number #11.

And while you are there, check out #8 and #16. Other than my own, those were my personal faves. How do you vote? You leave a comment. The blog with the most comments wins. What do we win? I have no earthy idea, but it would make me feel good to win something.

Get What You Want for Christmas

Okay, let’s talk about getting what you want for Christmas. In a word: ask for it. It’s really simple. Forget about the hint dropping. Just come out and say something like:

“Well honey, I’m really torn between the iPhone, foosball table, and Kindle. Why don’t you decide which of those three things to get me?”

See how easy that is?

Get Free Stuff

After this little tip you are going to feel so indebted to me that you will scroll back up to the Carnival link, click through and vote. A bunch of small business owners felt everyone’s pain in this tight economy and decided to do something about it. On esculonsays.com they are holding a holiday gift fest where they are giving away lots of free stuff.

That’s right you heard it here. You want some free jewelry, a free wine bottle stopper, free gift certificates, free clothing (couture clothing at that), free books, free lotions, free science kits and more? Go there and check it out.

WHAT DO YOU THINK?
